Welcome to the Somerset Tribe Chess Club! Following our successful summer drop-in sessions, we are excited to formally transition into our structured Autumn Term.

Whether your child is picking up a piece for the first time or preparing for competitive play, our club offers a dedicated, neuroaffirming, and highly social space to develop chess skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships in a pressure-free environment.

What Makes Our Club Special?

• World-Class Coaching: Co-led by National Master and expert chess tutor Sasha Matlak.

• Neuroaffirming & Supportive: A calm, inclusive, low-demand atmosphere tailored for neurodivergent young people and SEND betweeners.

• Exciting Gameplay: Multi-player games, interactive challenges, and friendly mini-tournaments.

• Tournament Pathways: Guided facilitation and support for players interested in entering official Somerset Junior Chess Tournaments.

• Community First: Run by Somerset Tribe CIC—committed to accessible, high-quality youth opportunities.

Session Details

• When: Every Tuesday (1st September to 15th December 2026)

• Time: 16:45 – 17:45 (Players are welcome to stay until 18:00 to finish ongoing games)

• Where: The Bennett Centre, Vicarage Street, Frome, BA11 1PU

• Capacity: Capped at 20 children per session to preserve a high-quality, calm environment.

Half-Term & Holiday Note:

There will be no regular club on Tuesday 27th October due to October Half-Term. Any optional sessions running during half-term or over the Christmas break will be announced separately at a flat drop-in rate of £5.00 per session.

Complete week-by-week flexibility.

Please note: Unless there are exceptional medical reasons, refunds cannot be issued for unused sessions paid in advance.

Our Community Commitment

As a Community Interest Company (CIC), Somerset Tribe is committed to keeping activities accessible to all local families. We actively apply for grant funding to subsidize equipment and keep core session costs as low as possible.
